The Violin Exchange began as an
outgrowth of the studios of Pam Kelly. It was through her experiences as a
private violin instructor in central North Carolina that Pam recognized the need
for a violin shop in the area specifically dedicated to serving beginning
through advanced students with quality instruments, accessories and repairs at
affordable prices.
Since its inception in 1992, The Violin Exchange has expanded its service to
strings students in the region primarily through the recommendations of private
and school-affiliated teachers and to areas beyond via the Internet.
Today, The Violin Exchange remains dedicated to providing the highest quality
products and services at economical prices through a commitment to controlling
overhead and continuously searching for stringed instrument values from around
the world.
The Violin Exchange is owned and operated by Rob and Pam Kelly. Both are 1981
graduates of UNC-Chapel Hill, where Pam received her Masters Degree in violin
performance and Rob received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.
Pam has served as concert master of the UNC Symphony and the Raleigh Symphony
and freelances with the North Carolina Theater and North Carolina Symphony. She
also has a private teaching studio of approximately 70 students.
Though Rob has spent many years in the real estate profession, his life-long
love of woodworking brought him to the study of violin making and repair more
than eight years ago. Through friends "in the trade", he has received personal
instruction from highly regarded luthiers and attended the Chimneys Workshop for
Violin Makers in Tucson under the tutelage of Ed Campbell, one of this country's
foremost violin making instructors.
